Every year we hold our prestigious BMI Apprentice of the Year competition at our industry-leading training centre, the BMI Academy, in Gloucestershire. We receive many applications each year from roofing apprentices all across the United Kingdom, with up to 20 flat and pitched roofing apprentice applicants making it to the final.
The benefits of your apprentice being a part of this competition are many, from giving your apprentices the platform to showcase the skill and quality associated with your business, to networking opportunities with figures within the roofing industry. Having an apprentice reach the final of the BMI Apprentice of the Year is an incredible accolade for your business, and is a great representation of the quality of experience and support your apprentices are receiving with you.
The event is more than just a contest of existing skills, and is designed to provide coaching and development across the 2-day event so that all of the finalists walk away having benefited from the experience.
The competition enables us to build on your business’ relationship with BMI and the support we can give you. All finalist apprentice employers’ are invited to attend the award ceremony on the final day of the competition, to celebrate their part in the event.

By providing apprentice roles for your local construction colleges, your business can work to solve the skill shortage impacting the roofing industry, and develop your own employees to work within your business for many years.
Both flat and pitched roofing apprentices are invited to submit entries online by 26th April. Up to 20 finalists will be selected in May and invited to compete in the two-day final at the BMI Academy in July where the winners will be crowned.
Entrants must be a roofing apprentice or student currently working towards qualified status. The Competition is open to residents of the UK, Channel Islands or Isle of Man and the Republic of Ireland aged over 16 years.
